"Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope." - Martin Luther King
We were told, by the year 2020, our nation will be prosperous and united. We will have flying cars, the most sophisticated buildings and armed with world class technological advancement. As visionary as the Wakanda nation is, it is a fictitious utopia, cloud castle that only exist in Marvel comic. Here we are: stranded at home, facing major economic downturn and worst: incessant water cut. Despite all these challenges, we are still here, walking around with pride, cover our face with resilience of hope.
Indeed, 2020 is a year of growth. While our physical meeting was less than 5 times this term, I witnessed some of the most incredible growth within this 6 month.
Our beloved Treasurer, Geok Ean had made us very proud. She ascended the throne of our Queen Evaluator, conquered the Area contest and made her name at Division level. She claimed the ultimate victory - the inner most satisfaction, knowing that she had done her very best, and she has gained the most out of what she had given. That is the very essence of personal growth. Thank you Prof X, Geok Ean for your exemplary, positive attitude in our Club.
Our Club Princess, our Vice President of Education, the guardian of our flame and shadow, had proven herself as a very capable diplomat. She led our Club during my 'absence'. demonstrated sturdy leadership quality and charisma as Club ambassador. Our Area Director, entrusted her with the responsibilities to organize our Area contest, which she gave her best to us. She was the lady behind the scene of whacky and fun joint meeting with School of Hard Knock and Malaysia Dental Association. We finish strong with the epic Speech Marathon during our last meeting, because of her administrative prowess. Thank you, Princess Le Anne, for your selfless contribution to our club.
Our Wonder Woman, Sergeant-At-Arrm, Vivian Ng is very proud of herself, as she was voted twice as best speaker during this term. It was indeed a well deserved recognition, for we witnessed a beautiful butterfly emerged from its pupa, ready to add colors to this garden of Friendship. Keep speaking, my friend, for your stories will change the world. Thank you, for trusting yourself in this journey.
Our quiet, soft spoken Secretary, Kai is often hiding himself from the limelight. Yet he diligently carried out his duty as our club Secretary and played a vital role in co-organizing our humorous speech and evaluation contest. Our Cheif judge, DTM Eric Low sang praise on our little party of HSE contest. Despite his introvert personalities, he was learning intensely from each speakers during each meeting. Thank you for your dedication. Maybe, time has come for you to take on bigger challenge.
Our ever-reliable VPM, Gary is the face we will see in every of our activities. His presence somehow will make us feel safe, and he will take care of most of our meeting logistics. Our physical meeting and HSE contest will not happen without this commitment. When we need help, we call Gary. We would like to reciprocate in spirit of Friendship TMC: Call us, when you need help.
Our poster boy, Club Marketing Officer (CMO), descendant of headhunter warrior and the most eligible bachelor, Brian had done a great job in attracting new members and promoting our club. We were able to enjoy our club newsletters, many thanks to his effort to delight us with a renewed, fresh, young and delicious pages of diamond life lessons from our club members. I promise you, my friend, 2021 will be a busy and meaningful year in your Toastmasters journey.
Not forgetting our mentoring chair, JJ, who recently life promoted as a father. Through his hard work, today we have a digital resource library and structured mentoring program. There are more tricks under his sleeve, so stay tuned.
Our Immediate Past President, Claire, is just like her name: bring clarity to foggy, uncertain situation. The cognizant Claire is my beacon in course of dispensing my duty as President. Her sharp, keen and attentive eyes to details and emotions is one my important guiding posts. Without her, maybe I will break a lot of rules. Don't worry, I will continue to break more rules, Madam President Claire.
To our club members: William, Ming, Gina, Stephen, Jeslynn, Sivadas, Keny, Calvin, Lai Leng, Lay Theng, Travis, Fong, Alden, Ying Hui, you are not forgotten. Rest assured the Exco team will pester you to deliver your speeches and taking up roles in club meetings.
I believe each club meetings have treasures that are only stored for you. These treasures can be yours, if only you are willing to search the key to your Eldorado wellspring in this Garden of Friendship. That key is in the hand our club members, unknown to them, hidden in club meetings, waiting for you to claim it.
So, my dear club members, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
(To be continued)....
